COLD CLIMATES BRRRRRR!

This week have been looking at ice and snow and rather topical as it snowed during Forest School on Friday. The children lay on the ground and stared up at the sky - catching snow on their tongues! We also had a fire just to warm us up.

The children have enjoyed taking part in the volcano experiment. first we built a mountain out of dough with a plastic bottle inside. Then we put bicarb' of soda washing up liquid and red food colour and glitter then added vinegar and WHOOOSh the volcano exploded !!!! There are volcano handouts on the desk so you can have a go at home !  Great recall from one child who remembered there is a volcano in the snail and the whale book. (our story sack next week).

At Broadway Playschool the younger children enjoyed helping prepare fruit for snack time on Monday.

Some of the girls have really enjoyed playing with the dolls in the home corner. We have witnessed pregnancy, illness and being mummies during their imaginative role play.

Stick man story sack note book came back full of the adventures he had had at one child's house last weekend - his adventures continue as he has gone home with a different child now ...........

CHINESE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER 2017

CHINESE NEW YEAR – YEAR OF THE ROOSTER 2017

Stir fry - The children have enjoyed preparing carrots, mushrooms and spring onions by peeling and cutting using the appropriate tools, they then watched it being cooked in a wok before they ate it. Some children really enjoyed tasting the stir fry asking for more while some children were not keen on it. A few even had a go at using chopsticks to eat with!

We also celebrated Chinese New Year by making a screen print of the rooster and we have made a display in the hall way for you all to see.

Our new story sack is “Whatever Next” about a teddy that goes to the moon - this has been popular with all the children enjoying the refrains.

Also we've had lots of role play this week with children ‘having babies’. Putting the soft toy owl up their jumper and saying to peers "I'm having a baby". One child's response to a peer was “lie down, ready steady go" !!!

The ‘Stickman’ story sack continues to go home with a different child each weekend – with some lovely adventures recorded by parents and children.

We have been practicing our fire drills this week – everyone did very well with a quick and safe exit.

At Broadway Playschool this week some of the little ones were a little apprehensive about touching the shaving foam on trays but with some encouragement they were soon involved and enjoying the experience. We also tried it on a big mirror and that was very interesting- some lovely finger mark making evolving. The trampoline had proved popular - counting out the jumps made!
