CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS ..........

Tap tap art took off this week with some lovely creations being made that children were very proud of.  The children managed to keep the pins mostly in the pot on the table!
The children worked well together and also with a little adult help managed to create some great vehicles using the meccano. We saw wheelbarrows, cranes and fire engines being built.

All the children have also been busy making all manner of Christmassy creations !

Broadway Playschool two year olds went down to the church and to look at the reindeers decorations they had made hanging on the Christmas tree. Many of the children recognized the one they made.

At Forest school there was lots of delightful use of the mud kitchen in the forest digging area this week.

TREE FESTIVAL REINDEERS

At Broadway Playschool - the little ones have been challenging themselves on the A frame and slide, testing their physical abilities.  Outside they have been putting their ideas into practise and getting involved in obstacle course' with crates and planks to balance along and crawl under, balance along and crawl under.  Great reindeer's and collages done by the two year old's this week with some really good
co-operative tidying up and helping each other.

At Towerview Playschool - As our topic is 'cold climates', the children placed Duplo polar bears into water and placed them into the freezer. Once the water froze they had a lot of fun using different tools to try and break through the ice.

Lovely drilling to make the reindeer Christmas decorations  (for our tree at the UR church Tree Festival) again this week - some children having their 2nd or 3rd go and getting quite skillful. remembering the safety goggles too!
The singing practise is going well too with lots of the children remembering the words now.

The children enjoyed having white play dough this week and we have enjoyed sharing some nice dough 'sweets and cakes'!!!

REMINDER - any child with sickness and/ or diarrhoea - even if only one bout CANNOT attend Playschool for 48 hours FROM THE LAST BOUT.
This ensures the prevention of spread of infection and protects the staff, who if we all get sick -there will be NO PLAYSCHOOL !

Tuesday 27 November 2018

This week we did an experiment to see how and why sharks float. The children shared their thoughts "fins", "water", tail". The children also made their predictions but also said how the experiment could be done differently to get a different result.

Great sawing in the Forest School today. Children learnt and repeated safety rules -  understanding about keeping safe
and assessing risks. Having sawn the disks from branches in the Forest School, all the children have done some drilling. Even the ones who were a little reluctant at first enjoyed the new experience and they seem to be very happy with their finished 'reindeer' decorations.
We will walk down to decorate the tree ourselves and our decorations will be displayed on our tree at the URC church hall (upper high street) over the next two weeks and at the Broadway Late Night Shopping events - this Friday and following Friday 7th December.

There have been some lovely collage pictures being done this week - all very creative and children talking about what they have made
some starting to put their names on their pictures: one child told me she had "made a beautiful butterfly"!

Outside some amazing construction has been taking place. Children really using communication skills to negotiate and instruct each other.

COME AND SEE OUR REINDEER DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREE AT THE UNITED REFORMED CHURCH !
Friday evenings -30th and 7th and over weekends too!

BONFIRE NIGHT AND REMEMBERANCE POPPIES

We looked at fire safety this week. The children did 'good listening' as we all sat and talked about Bonfire night, fireworks and sparklers and how to keep safe. We also passed around a lit candle for the children to feel how hot they get and talked about how only adults handle matches.

The children enjoyed making the chocolate 'bonfire cake'. We used melted chocolate that they ch enjoyed breaking up, then working out how to melt the chocolate.  It was suggested we put it in hot water we tried this but that resulted in- "no yuck ! ". So we discussed what else do we use and it was agreed a bowl over hot water might work- IT DID !   We then showed the children the box of rice crispies which had a crocodile on the front …."what do you think is in here? " they were asked - their replies were "crocodiles "!

On Tuesday we put sparklers in the 'bonfire' cake then enjoyed the cake for snack time. The children also made firework paintings.

The children are really enjoying listening to the story of the Princess and the Dragon. They are listening well and are talking about what happens next in the story.

The children enjoyed making 'poppies' prints using halved apples to print on a banner of lining paper and rolling green paint on for the grass, and drawing stalks on the poppies. It looks really lovely - please take a look in Playschool.

We have also seen some amazing role play, acting out the roles of fire fighters and building of 'boats'.

At Broadway Playschool, the children at the 2-3yr have enjoyed making firework paintings.
Seen some really imaginative role play this week, exploding fireworks and water fountains.
Great car role play using tyres and crates for the engine.

HALLOWEEN !

The children enjoyed the Pumpkin this week.  They enjoyed scooping out the pumpkin for us to make soup. They helped blend the soup using a hand blender-  lots of excitement there.
All the children who were in on Tuesday and Wednesday got to try the soup, some loved it; others not so keen but good to see them all try.
We toasted the seeds too with a little olive oil and pinch of salt the children and staff had these at snack time yummy.

We had a lot of the children enjoying doing drawings of the pumpkin this week.

At Broadway Playschool we also carved a pumpkin and felt the slimey seeds ! We have introduced ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ story sack to the little ones and they are responding to it with great enthusiasm. Hopefully next half term we will make our own porridge to try at snack time and it won't be 'too hot' or 'too sweet' but 'just right'!

HALF TERM NEXT WEEK  back MONDAY 5TH NOVEMBER

ZOOLAB

There was much excitement when "Zoolab ' visited this week.
The children were very patient and waited turns to hold giant land snail, a snake, giant centipede and see a tarantula - it was all very interesting. They learnt about creatures without backbones like us.
We were very proud of the children's good behaviour.

High winds meant we couldn't safely use the Forest School so we explored the school field and enjoyed the sensation of the 'wooshing' wind!

AUTUMNAL LEAVES AND COLOURS

The children at Broadway Playschool  got very sticky making bread this week.  They also enjoyed eating the rolls this made!

The older children at Towerview Playschool have been really creative with their building outside this week, exploring spaces making campsites and racing tracks.  They have especially enjoyed the sand and playing with the balls on the guttering.  We have also noticed all the children have worked really well at tidying up time.

They have enjoyed explored colours. Using different coloured bowls and sorting the teddies along with painting leaves and printing them.

The older children enjoyed revisiting their threaded leaf rattles and exploring the sounds. They have also explored the texture of the autumn leave, using them to make leaf rubbings.

PLAYSCHOOL ROUTINES

Our theme this half term revolves around settling in - learning the routines and Playschool rules . These are
  • kind hands
  • inside and outside voices
  • good listening , good sitting, good thinking !
  • looking after each other
  • using timers to resolve disputes over toys
The children have been getting used to the visual timetable - this tells them in pictures what we are going to do each day.
we are also looking at 'ourselves' - painting and drawing self portraits.

All the children enjoyed sampling the hedgehog bread during snack time. Many children said it was the best bread ever !  They also enjoyed making some interesting gingerbread men, some waving, dancing and jumping!!

There was much fun playing in the water play - tipping pouring - soowshing etc

WELCOME TO THE PLAYSCHOOL AUTUMN TERM 2018 !

Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to our Playschool autumn term.
This term we will be looking at 'ourselves' and each other and learning what it means to be in the  Playschool community.
I hope you have all received your newsletter - if not please ask for a copy in Playschool.

It's been lovely welcoming back the children after the summer and watching the new children
settling in really well getting use to our enabling environment. Also seeing how they all have enjoyed playing together, interacting and starting to form friendships.

We have been learning each others names playing 'roll the ball' game and the children have been enjoying 'What's in the Box?' a rhyming game that supports their speech and sharing abilities.

We have seen many children enjoy digging in the soil with the diggers and having lots of perseverance to dig deep in the tough soil.  There has been much fun had with the playdough - making shapes , cakes and rolling and pinching to form shapes.  Sand and water has been popular - utilising those pre-writing skills to manipulate - to pour -lift-  fill - explore - dig - empty - shape etc

At Forest School
We have been noticing how the forest is changing and exploring its flora and fauna.

FOREST SCHOOL EVENING FOR PARENTS AND STAFF  MONDAY ( 17th Sept  ) EVE AT 6PM to include Forest cooked supper and a drink - let us know asap if you can attend by returning your slip to Playschool

Friday 20 July 2018

Many of the children have been quite busy painting this week and we have
seen some really great artwork.  Also even though it's the last week we have
seen the children showing good sitting and good listening which is always a

great thing to see!  The children have  really enjoyed helping us clean all the toys ready for September.  Thankyou to all the parents who have helped with cleaning washing dressing up etc.

We will miss all our children leaving us to go to 'big' school, and we hope you all have a fabulous time.  Also, to all the children returning to us in September, have a fun summer and stay safe.

We have enjoyed sharing ideas with the visiting teachers,  such as taking care of resources and cleaning them for the new academic year and our use of water play for understanding our world.

Wishing all the children lots of luck on their new adventures to 'big' school.
Have a great summer everyone !
