HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL !

Let it snow ! let it snow ! let it snow!
Even though it wasn't here for long we had a fab time in the snow, the children enjoyed sledging, making snow angels and exploring icicles and studying animal footprints.

The children have enjoyed all the Christmas activities on offer, these included stocking collages, making cards, party crowns and finally creating chocolate reindeers !

The Christmas Party was a great success. We had party games including pass the parcel, a photo shoot of all of us in our Xmas jumpers then after a quick whizz around on the bikes outside we all sat down to full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings! It was delicious and one child ate 3 ‘platefulls’. The jelly and ice cream was good too.
Father Christmas came and after giving out early presents took the Elves – Elsie and Elvis back with him to the north Pole to get busy making presents for the BIG day!  He thanked the children for looking after the Elves so well.  Then Father Christmas asked the children to do one thing for him – he asked them, on Christmas Day, to give all their own families a hug and tell them they loved them.

The staff would like to say a big thankyou to our families for all the presents, chocolates and biscuits we received …….

HAPPY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL AT PLAYSCHOOL !

Christmas preparations - ALREADY !

Believe it or not we have ben  getting Christmas decorations made for our tree inside the United Reformed Church in the upper high street. This coincides with Broadway Late night shopping evenings this Friday and next. Do come and see our PLAYSCHOOL tree!
We have also been practising our Christmas songs for our sing song for parents, carers and families in the last weeks of term - date to be announced !

While all this has been going on the Little ones at Broadway Playschool have been planning bulbs in our newly reclaimed garden and enjoying being outside in the winter sunshine and the rain!

At Towerview Playschool the older children have been making pretend trains a=out of boxes , assault courses from tyres and also enjoying the winter sunshine. At Forest School we are noticing how leaves are still falling and how the plants are dying back as winter approaches. Frozen leaves and grasses were studied and we noticed how the sunshine melted the frost.

IEPs winter reports have gone out and many parents come to meet with their child's key person last week. If you didn't and would like to please see Jude. You can arrange to see your child's key person when ever you wish to  - please talk to them or Jude to arrange mutually suitable time. Thankyou

Sunday 5 November 2017

HAPPY HALLOWEEN AND SAFE BONFIRE NIGHT TO YOU ALL !

This week saw the children helping to carve the pumpkins and then chopping and preparing the vegetables to make soup- they all had a go with the blender too. And thoroughly enjoyed the soup with only 2 children saying they didn’t like it. We all studied the matches and held the lit the candle and talked about fire safety and burning ourselves and how to keep safe.

All the children enjoyed making bonfire cake – out of krispies and melted chocolate and watching the fire and the cake with sparklers in it at Forest school.  Eating it was fun too!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed marble run this week. They have made big and small runs and watched as the marbles made their way down their creations.  This also developed into running cars down the planks to see which would go the fastest.

We had a lovely game of Hide and Seek on Wednesday with most of the children taking part, which was really nice to watch.

AT Broadway Playschool the little ones made spooky spider web prints from glue and glitter – many were very good at following instructions.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY BONFIRE NIGHT !

Sunday 8 October 2017

LEAVES & CONKER TIME !

At Towerview Playschool the children have enjoyed collecting and playing amongst the leaves, having lots of fun running through them kicking and throwing them over each other on the school field. They enjoyed watching them flutter down and hearing their crunch as they jumped and skipped through them. We shall have to try to make some art installations with our finds!

The children enjoyed a short walk to the horse chestnut ‘conker’ trees this week. We collected and sorted the conkers. Some were very big, others were tiny !

We also had great fun using the bikes on the ramp – there was some really good turn taking, waiting and beeping the horn on the way day to ‘alert the oncoming traffic ! ‘

At Broadway Playschool the ‘2-3s’ are enjoying ‘What's in the box?’ and joining in with action songs. This takes a lot of concentration, develops patience and enables ‘turn taking’.  Outside the children enjoyed the autumn air, seeing the leaves falling from the trees. 'Bubble time' engaged the children in jumping and twirling as they tried to catch the bubbles.

Monday 2 October 2017

Autumn themes ....

At Broadway Playschool, the little ones have been showing off their physical skills with ‘roly ploys’, jumping and hurdling over cones.   They are enjoying sand play, trying to make sandcastles with almost every container!

At Towerview Playschool the children have really enjoyed practicing their throwing and kicking skills with the footballs.

The children enjoyed the ‘Owl Babies’ story sack, which reinforced to them that all mummies come back. They showed some excellent recall of the story and talked about their feelings.

They have lalso oved looking out the window, this week, at the digger taking down the garages and then going outside and playing with the toy diggers and conkers.

Lots of children have enjoyed making ‘hedgehog’ shaped collages this week. Also the puzzles table has seen some lovely interaction, support and encouragement from one to another.

Sunday 24 September 2017

EXPLORING THEIR ENVIRONMENT

It has been lovely getting to know the children and their families who have started with us this term. The children have continued to settle in, with some of them making great strides in their toileting and getting changed for yoga and forest school.

They have enjoyed observing their facial features in the mirror and drawing a self portraits and have really enjoyed building outside with the blocks, planks and crates.

At forest school the children have also enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment and looking for insects.

Next door to Towerview Playschool the garages are being knocked down. There have been lots of excited children’s faces while watching the blue digger taking them down and piling up the bricks.

The children at the 2-3yr group are settling well and learning the morning routine. They are really enjoying circle time with 'Skip' the dog.

If you want to chat anything through about your child's development, settling etc please talk to your child's Key person or Jude.

Monday 18 September 2017

WELCOME BACK TO THE AUTUMN TERM !

Hello everyone !
The children have all either settled back in or are getting to know us and beginning to settle now.

We have seen a lot of empathy as older, more settled children support younger new children - lovely to see.

The children have been making the most of being outside with water play, construction and chalk mark making. The children have been busy using the 'tool kit' to 'repair' the play house- lots of hammering and drilling going on!

We have made bread rolls as a group- they looked smelt and tasted delicious !

At Broadway Playschool, the children have been building towers inside and out and getting used to sitting up for snack and coming to story time.

Forest School is going well - Jude spent a day coppicing and tidying both areas ready for the winter. We shall be doing fire safety and working with basic tools over the winter months. The children have enjoyed climbing. They will also be helping to manage the site - collecting fire word and looking after the trees and birds.

Friday 21 July 2017

HAPPY SUMMER HOLS !

In Playschool the children have enjoyed building walkways and bridges with the planks outside in the sunshine.

After a rather damp start, meeting up at the Tower park, we think it's fair to say that the Tower Walk this year was a success, with lots of sliding and rolling part of the way down. An added bonus was the company of grasshoppers during our picnic snack half way down. The children all had a great time walking down and they did brilliantly considering the initial bad weather.  They enjoyed 'log rolling' down the hills, sliding down on their bottoms, seeing the views and even came close to the sheep. They finished it off by preparing their own sandwiches for an indoor picnic back at Towerview Playschool.

Broadway Playschool (the two year old group) enjoyed a visit to the park this week, where they played on the swings, seesaws and even managed to climb the climbing frame; before sliding down the pole like firefighters.

Well we really can't get over where the time has gone!  We have all really enjoyed seeing all the children growing in confidence and their personalities shine through. We've shared lots of lovely 'WOW' moments on the way.

Enjoy 'big school' all our 'Leavers'  and we look forward to welcoming children coming back in September to continue their journey with us.

TERM STARTS MONDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2017

Sunday 16 July 2017

water water everywhere ........

The children have enjoyed building outdoors, they have been observed building a car, bridge, walkway, surfboard and a house. The children's imagination is extensive and it has been fun to watch their ideas develop.

The water play has been extended by the children and they have really enjoyed making a water course to tip the water down; working out flow and exploring gravity. We have been expanding water beads that one of our parent's kindly supplied - the children have enjoyed the texture and the colours  and have used mirrors to make kaleidoscope patterns.

At Broadway Playschool the 2-3 year old children have enjoyed parachute games, moving 'up' and 'down' to create wind, and hiding 'under'.

The coming week will be full of mixed emotions as we say goodbye to the children going on to 'big' school in September. We've had an absolute blast this past year and looking forward to seeing the slide show Jude has put together for us to watch everyday (from Tuesday) at 2.30pm.

Sunday 9 July 2017

LET THE SUN SHINE IN !

This week the children made the most of the sunshine - donned with sun hats and sun cream they built water courses and dens and enjoyed the whole outside experience.

The little ones at Broadway Playschool went for a walk over the fields. We saw birds, dogs, the stream - where we played 'poo sticks' and horse and foal then a field of sheep being rounded up by a 'farmeress' on a quad bike and sheep dogs - what an exciting day!

We have been designing '3 lovely Apples ' drawing entries  for the Broadway Horticulture show that will be on in early Sept this year. We hope to win the cup for the 5th time !!! Also making 3D trees entries out of junk for the Willersey Show in August.

FOREST SCHOOL TRIP
This was a fabulous day. After getting ready we boarded the bus - very exciting and lots to see as we went down Broadway High street on route to Sandfield Farm.  Once there we unloaded all out lunches, fire basket , tools and water and went in to the huge forest school area. This has hills, muddy ditches, mud kitchen  stiles, tyre swing, musical drums, different shelters and fully kitted out rooms with toilets and hand washing facilities. We stopped to watch the pigs loving getting showered from the hose pipe and the cockerel.
Then we had snack around the camp fire - toasted crumpets and marshmallows and explored the forest. These was steady supply of watering cans to sue in mud kitchen or to make muddy ditches even more muddy!  We had a fabulous day - getting very, very muddy and enjoying the freedom of the vast forest. I was very proud of all the children and staff who made the day so wonderful and to Emma at Sandfield farm for her support. On our way back one boy fell fast asleep and another  child remarked " that was the best day ever ! "

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY !

All of the children at Towerview have enjoyed making biscuits and icing them for ‘Fathers Day’ this coming Sunday. They also enjoyed getting their feet in paint for the ‘Love’ cards! At Broadway Playschool the children painted through stencils to make tractor, dog and car effect cards for their Daddies.

One afternoon this week we enjoyed a walk down the village to Broadway kennels.  Most of the adult dogs were having a snooze in the warm weather. We had a quick peek at the horses in their stables and came across some puppies on a walk, down towards the Bowling club.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘gloop’ –cornflour silk, they have moulded it together then watched it as it transformed back into a liquid. They enjoyed the feel of it all over their hands and watching it drip through their fingers- there was a lot of interesting conversations as they explored descriptive language.

At Broadway Playschool the little ones have enjoyed playing in the mud kitchen outside this week.  As the weather was so nice they enjoyed a picnic style snack time in the garden. They have also been exploring gloop – cornflour and water mixture and enjoyed playing with it alongside our student from Evesham College.

Tuesday 13 June 2017

LET'S GET OUTSIDE !!!

At Towerview Playschool the children have been observed enjoying  the outdoors this week, this has included building walls with foam blocks, playing super hero's outside, throwing and catching balls.  Some of the Children have been using paint brushes and rollers with water to make train tracks and roads during role play.

They have also been busy making sequences with the coloured pegs. They have followed patterns and created their own. Counting and recognizing colours have also formed part of their learning here.

On Friday, at forest school, some of the children helped to finish the xylophone by using rope to tie the logs together. Others made wind catchers – an idea from Jilly, a guest professional, who has been working with the children over the last month.

Waterproofs and wellies on, the little ones at Broadway Playschool enjoyed being in the rain again this week.

BUSY BUSY BEES !

Some of the children have been busy making clay models, one child made a hedgehog. With some adult assistant some of the children have been creating some super models in the junk modelling area, learning different ways to construct and connect with tape, split pins, glue and pegs. Among the creations are houses, a boat, giraffe and a bin lorry.

The caterpillars arrived and at being carefully watched to see how much they grow .........

The children have really enjoyed playing and exploring all the different musical instruments - some Playschool percussion ones, some ones we have made including rhythm sticks and shakers.

Also we all made the best of the nice weather on Wednesday and set up an obstacle course outside to practice hopping, jumping, balancing and throwing bean bags. This was done as an adult led  whole group activity in the morning and some children continued doing it, helping each other, in the afternoon.

There has been some really imaginative role play happening, mostly outside. There have been children putting out fires with buckets of pebbles, wearing helmets & looking for fires with binoculars & also chasing other children to put them in jail! Some children were Queens & Princesses, dressing up and helping or chasing firefighters  back to put out their fires with their 'freezing' fingers/hands & warning them to be careful they don t get 'frozen'!

Two of the boys played for about 15mins with the cardboard  box & tyre sitting on  the tyre & falling forwards & backwards into the box .... no words but lots of whooping & laughing. These actions were repeated many times until one of them played hide & seek in the box as he did last week   Indoors some children made up pretend 'lunch boxes' with play food & boxes so they could have a 'picnic lunch' .

The children at Broadway Playschool  (2-3 group)  have been enjoying the music instruments and exploring the different sounds each make inside and out.  There has been some lovely singing and good rhythm making. The fascination with the buckets, pulleys ands stones continues.

Sunday 7 May 2017

tapping out the rhythm

At Forest school this week all the children were keen to get involved in making a xylophone at forest school, they enjoyed dragging wood through the area and sawing up logs ready to put it together. We had to fell a tree - it was completely rotten - the children stood  well back and shout of "timber!" went up as it crashed to the ground.
Lots of smiles on meeting Jilly's puppet dog 'Sit' again on Wednesday morning and singing our "hello" song.  The children selected different length rhythm sticks by sound and decorated them too.

At Broadway Playschool the sunny weather meant we could stay outside longer without getting too cold. The buckets and pulleys were being explored, mark making with the chalks  and one child built blocks around the static playhouse - like a wall of insulation! Lots of concentration and purposeful play. They were mesmerised by the '3 Little Pigs' story sack show! At the end of the session percussion instruments along to world music was much enjoyed by children and staff.

As part of the transition to school, we visited the reception class at Broadway First School. The children explored the environment. They also had a quite exhausting PE session in the school hall - lots of noise made !

Monday 1 May 2017

WELCOME BACK TO THE SUMMER TERM !

Hi everyone - hope you had a great Easter Break and welcome back to the summer term .

This half term our theme is about 'sounds' - all different sounds, how we listen and make sounds; sounds in our environment and what makes what sound!

We have two skilled EY Practitioners; Jilly and Angie working with us this half term too.

This week, while settling back in after the two week break, we have been making jam tarts, singing songs to percussion instruments and working on recognising initials from our names.

At Broadway Playschool, learning to climb over the 'A' frame and making music outside have been the session's work.

At Forest School this week - we listened to raindrops on the leaves, found a hibernating hedgehog and made a protected area to keep him safe and sound. We also discovered how high the cow parsley has got and found bluebells hidden in the forest.

The staff have been very busy preparing the children's individual education plans. These will go out to parents this week coming and inviting your comments. There will also be an opportunity to meet with your child's key person over the next few weeks.

Friday 24 March 2017

HAPPY MOTHERING SUNDAY !

This week all the children have been busy printing cards and cooking biscuit hearts for their Mum's!

There has been printing of 'roses' using celery and flower shapes with the bottom of a water bottle.... the children have concentrated, listened to instructions and made some lovely prints.

To make the biscuits they looked at the recipe and then weighed, sieved, stirred and mixed up the mixture - waiting for it to be ready to roll out and then cut - using a fish slice to lift on to the tray. They loved the smells and waited for the timer to go off.

At Forest School we have been back to the bottom site - checking it out and seeing all the daffodils in bloom. The children really enjoyed the space and using the climbing tree. There was also 'bonfire' building and digging going on in the sunshine!

On Friday some children came dressed up for Red Nose Day - others wore a nose or a badge.

HAPPY MOTHERING SUNDAY TO ALL MUM'S AND GRANDMA'S!

Monday 20 March 2017

The Three Bears Porridge !

At Broadway Playschool the 2-3yrs enjoyed a walk across the fields, we played pooh sticks, enjoyed a picnic snack and a play at the park.

At Towerview the children explored oats and made real porridge and all had a taste with and without syrup. The role play featured the ‘Three Bears’ ( story sack) who had a lot of interesting ingredients in their porridge pot by the end of the day!

Later in the week the children enjoyed making flapjacks . They ‘wrote’ out their recipes and helped weigh and measure the ingredients- mixing and stirring.  Hope they enjoyed eating them just as much as making them!
After finding a half eaten carrot in the outside area, the children’s imaginations went into overdrive- " It's from Rudolph"  said one child, another says " I think it's from the bunnies" and  from this moment on lots of lovely role play emerged.

Sunday 12 March 2017

THE GREAT BRITISH POTATO !

Our cooking this week involved thinking about where potatoes come from and what we can use them for. There was playing with potatoes in the role play- counting ,weighing and sorting. Scraping, cleaning and chopping potatoes to make chips - which were yummy with ketchup! We also use potatoes to do mono printing. Later in the week we made chocolate cornflakes cakes because one of the children had spotted the recipe in our cookbook and we all through it a good idea.

The children were really creative with their chalking outside this week, some lovely colours mixed with water to paint the floor and the outside of the playhouse.

On Tuesday we all enjoyed a tour around the First School. We saw all the school children working in their classrooms, met the administrator Mrs Freaney and had a chat with head teacher Dr Browning in her office, before going in to the reception class and checking out their toilets !
The children enjoyed using their imagination outdoors by creating a stage, using a variety of materials and negotiating this was completed and they then went about to show their talent off.

Lovely forest school session, some children showing great strength using the climbing tree and everyone really enjoyed listening to the robins calling back to Jude's soft toy bird - 'Randolf Robin' !

The Broadway Playschool children continue to enjoy water play with all of them very involved with getting water to go through the waterfall stacker - which when placed on a chair in the water play really worked - it also fell over a lot and we all got a bit wet!
Lovely outside seeing all the bulbs coming up and looking at the woodlice.

PARENT & TODDLER GROUP - STARTS THIS TUESDAY AFTERNOON 1- 2.30.

Sunday 5 March 2017

PANCAKE DAY & WORLD BOOK DAY!

Pancake day was brilliant ! We celebrated by writing recipes, making the mixture – watching Jude toss pancakes in the kitchen and then tossing our own pancakes- in small frying pans.

We went over to the school hall to do PE where the children enjoyed walking like giraffes, lions, caterpillars, spiders and jumping like bunnies. We practised skipping too.

WORLD BOOK DAY saw everyone dressing up even the staff team and exploring the story sacks at Playschool.

The children have enjoyed mark making in the tuff tray with chalk using large movement with their arms.

‘Stick man’ continues to visit each child’s home and is building up a lovely diary of his adventures.
At Broadway Playschool the children have been really getting  into the water play – tipping and pouring and have enjoyed chasing their shadows on the floor.
                             PARENT & BABY/TODDLER GROUP
STARTING AT TOWERVIEW PLAYSCHOOL ON TUESDAY 14TH MARCH 1-2.30pm

Friday 10 February 2017

COLD CLIMATES BRRRRRR!

This week have been looking at ice and snow and rather topical as it snowed during Forest School on Friday. The children lay on the ground and stared up at the sky - catching snow on their tongues! We also had a fire just to warm us up.

The children have enjoyed taking part in the volcano experiment. first we built a mountain out of dough with a plastic bottle inside. Then we put bicarb' of soda washing up liquid and red food colour and glitter then added vinegar and WHOOOSh the volcano exploded !!!! There are volcano handouts on the desk so you can have a go at home !  Great recall from one child who remembered there is a volcano in the snail and the whale book. (our story sack next week).

At Broadway Playschool the younger children enjoyed helping prepare fruit for snack time on Monday.

Some of the girls have really enjoyed playing with the dolls in the home corner. We have witnessed pregnancy, illness and being mummies during their imaginative role play.

Stick man story sack note book came back full of the adventures he had had at one child's house last weekend - his adventures continue as he has gone home with a different child now ...........

CHINESE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER 2017

CHINESE NEW YEAR – YEAR OF THE ROOSTER 2017

Stir fry - The children have enjoyed preparing carrots, mushrooms and spring onions by peeling and cutting using the appropriate tools, they then watched it being cooked in a wok before they ate it. Some children really enjoyed tasting the stir fry asking for more while some children were not keen on it. A few even had a go at using chopsticks to eat with!

We also celebrated Chinese New Year by making a screen print of the rooster and we have made a display in the hall way for you all to see.

Our new story sack is “Whatever Next” about a teddy that goes to the moon - this has been popular with all the children enjoying the refrains.

Also we've had lots of role play this week with children ‘having babies’. Putting the soft toy owl up their jumper and saying to peers "I'm having a baby". One child's response to a peer was “lie down, ready steady go" !!!

The ‘Stickman’ story sack continues to go home with a different child each weekend – with some lovely adventures recorded by parents and children.

We have been practicing our fire drills this week – everyone did very well with a quick and safe exit.

At Broadway Playschool this week some of the little ones were a little apprehensive about touching the shaving foam on trays but with some encouragement they were soon involved and enjoying the experience. We also tried it on a big mirror and that was very interesting- some lovely finger mark making evolving. The trampoline had proved popular - counting out the jumps made!

STICK MAN IN ITALY

This week ‘stickman ‘had been to Italy to look for his ‘family tree’. He didn’t find it but he did have some good adventures.  The children made Italy’s national flag – copying an example and hung them up to make a lovely display.

All the children enjoyed making pizzas, this included making the dough from scratch and making the pizza base using rolling pins or their hands. Then they had to help cut up the different toppings, and decide what they want on their pizza. One child made a face out the toppings on their pizza. They looked and tasted yummy!

We have also made real ice cream together in Jo’s mum’s ice cream make – Thank you Jo’s Mum!

It was lovely to see how they were re-enacting the ‘Stickman’ story after story time with Stickman props from the story sack. There was lots of interaction between the children and staff. Great fun.

Outside they have been making swimming pools using the foam blocks then using chalks to colour the ground blue for the water.  Just the weather for outdoor swimming !

Some of the girls in the group enjoyed pretending to be fire fighters and put out the "fire" using the hoses.

At Broadway Playschool the children followed the recipe for oat biscuits on Monday, then we made savoury oat cakes on Wednesday. They really concentrated, weighing out the ingredients and helped stir and roll out the mixture. They all enjoyed sitting on the big tyre outside to have a winter picnic - munching oat cakes!

Friday 20 January 2017

Stickman !

This week ‘Stick man’ appeared and the children began to tell stories and get involved in ‘Stick man’s’ life! When doing the ‘Stickman’ story sack with the children it was lovely to see how they were re-enacting the story afterwards themselves with ‘Stickman’ props from the storysack. There was lots of interaction between the children. It has been great fun. Also listening to lots of lovely comments about why 'Stickman' appeared in the Playschool playhouse, and how he could get home! Their role play is really developing now, with some children playing with the Doctor's sets and resetting ‘Stickman’s’ broken arm ! He even came to Forest School to see if he could find his family tree??

The children have enjoyed making collage using a variety of resources on our BIG collage table. They have also used the resources to do some costume design.  Some had a go at making outfits for the dolls and even created costumes for themselves, a lovely feathery dress and an impressive 'Coat of Armour'.

At Broadway Playschool the children have been helping prepare snack with careful cutting. The block play is developing though the children discovered it does take much longer to pack away than it does to get out !  They are enjoying ‘Kipper’s Toy Box’ but ‘Whats in the box?’ is still a firm favourite.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Welcome back to the spring term !

Settling into the spring term......Carrying on with the Christmas theme as children play out their experiences, they have enjoyed wrapping presents, learning to select, learning the skill to wrap securely with their own style.
There has been lots of lovely role play already this week at Towerview Playschool.  The children have been involved in playing doctors, and today (Thursday) a small group have instigated a Christmas game, dressing up as Santa with a sack and delivering ( the pre-wrapped) presents around the setting.
This week the children have been learning to programme ICT toys. They have been learning to take turns and discovering ‘cause and effect’ as they play with the ‘Bee Bot’ robot. Children have loved programming the ‘Beebot’ and watching it move round the tray.
Much puzzle making has been going on with some children moving to new levels of mastering the jigsaw. Some have also chosen to play board games and showing increasing counting skills and number recognition.
The little ones at Broadway Playschool have been enjoying being outside despite the cold weather. We have seen semi frozen puddles and watched the scudding clouds – predicting if we will have snow !!  They have been chalking on the tough trays making circles and lines. The story sack this term is ‘Kippers Toy Box’ and we have all enjoyed the story.
Tempest Photographers are in on Wednesday 8th February
9am at Towerview Playschool - all children and families welcome from both settings.
