STICK MAN IN ITALY

This week ‘stickman ‘had been to Italy to look for his ‘family tree’. He didn’t find it but he did have some good adventures.  The children made Italy’s national flag – copying an example and hung them up to make a lovely display.

All the children enjoyed making pizzas, this included making the dough from scratch and making the pizza base using rolling pins or their hands. Then they had to help cut up the different toppings, and decide what they want on their pizza. One child made a face out the toppings on their pizza. They looked and tasted yummy!

We have also made real ice cream together in Jo’s mum’s ice cream make – Thank you Jo’s Mum!

It was lovely to see how they were re-enacting the ‘Stickman’ story after story time with Stickman props from the story sack. There was lots of interaction between the children and staff. Great fun.

Outside they have been making swimming pools using the foam blocks then using chalks to colour the ground blue for the water.  Just the weather for outdoor swimming !

Some of the girls in the group enjoyed pretending to be fire fighters and put out the "fire" using the hoses.

At Broadway Playschool the children followed the recipe for oat biscuits on Monday, then we made savoury oat cakes on Wednesday. They really concentrated, weighing out the ingredients and helped stir and roll out the mixture. They all enjoyed sitting on the big tyre outside to have a winter picnic - munching oat cakes!

Stickman !

This week ‘Stick man’ appeared and the children began to tell stories and get involved in ‘Stick man’s’ life! When doing the ‘Stickman’ story sack with the children it was lovely to see how they were re-enacting the story afterwards themselves with ‘Stickman’ props from the storysack. There was lots of interaction between the children. It has been great fun. Also listening to lots of lovely comments about why 'Stickman' appeared in the Playschool playhouse, and how he could get home! Their role play is really developing now, with some children playing with the Doctor's sets and resetting ‘Stickman’s’ broken arm ! He even came to Forest School to see if he could find his family tree??

The children have enjoyed making collage using a variety of resources on our BIG collage table. They have also used the resources to do some costume design.  Some had a go at making outfits for the dolls and even created costumes for themselves, a lovely feathery dress and an impressive 'Coat of Armour'.

At Broadway Playschool the children have been helping prepare snack with careful cutting. The block play is developing though the children discovered it does take much longer to pack away than it does to get out !  They are enjoying ‘Kipper’s Toy Box’ but ‘Whats in the box?’ is still a firm favourite.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Welcome back to the spring term !

Settling into the spring term......Carrying on with the Christmas theme as children play out their experiences, they have enjoyed wrapping presents, learning to select, learning the skill to wrap securely with their own style.
There has been lots of lovely role play already this week at Towerview Playschool.  The children have been involved in playing doctors, and today (Thursday) a small group have instigated a Christmas game, dressing up as Santa with a sack and delivering ( the pre-wrapped) presents around the setting.
This week the children have been learning to programme ICT toys. They have been learning to take turns and discovering ‘cause and effect’ as they play with the ‘Bee Bot’ robot. Children have loved programming the ‘Beebot’ and watching it move round the tray.
Much puzzle making has been going on with some children moving to new levels of mastering the jigsaw. Some have also chosen to play board games and showing increasing counting skills and number recognition.
The little ones at Broadway Playschool have been enjoying being outside despite the cold weather. We have seen semi frozen puddles and watched the scudding clouds – predicting if we will have snow !!  They have been chalking on the tough trays making circles and lines. The story sack this term is ‘Kippers Toy Box’ and we have all enjoyed the story.
Tempest Photographers are in on Wednesday 8th February
9am at Towerview Playschool - all children and families welcome from both settings.
