ROAD SAFETY & VISIT TO THE DOCTORS SURGERY

The visit to doctors surgery was fantastic all the children were really good . They sat brilliantly and listened well while Dr Hughes spoke to them. They were all enthusiastic to volunteer to have temperature use the stethoscope to listen to each other's heartbeats.  He put glitter glue  on hands to show them how germs spread. He showed them models of  how the heart looks and your feet. All children were fantastic great walking and practising crossing using the pedestrian crossing in the village.

There has been masses of excellent communication and interaction going on this week with building things with different materials and listening to each others ideas.  Some great team work going on and one boy said ‘wow this has been the best day ever!’ once finished building a huge ‘palace’ role play in the whole outdoor area with a few peers.

We have been looking at how to cross the road safely, making traffic light biscuits and have made a stop /go sign for the bikes !

SUNFLOWERS,NURSES, FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE DOG HANDLERS !

The children have done some lovely sunflower pictures this week – we shall make them into a book !
A real nurse came into playschool on Thursday and talked to the children and let them hear their heart beats and put bandages on our dolls. She really enjoyed the children’s enthusiasm!
The visit to the Fire station by the two Playschools  was a huge success – the two fire fighters were great showing the children how everything worked and bringing fire safety into every conversation. The children clambered on board the fire engine, tried on equipment and explored the station. We all had a great time and the best bit was when the children got to have a go with the water hose !

Even the little ones seemed to really enjoy it all and the siren didn’t scare them at all- 'yay for Fireman Sam' (tv). When one fireman got big object off the back of the engine and asked the children if anyone knew what it was, several quickly answered with "Jaws of life" !!

We then had a picnic snack on the grass while they put the fire engine way.  The children got stickers, books and colouring sheets to take away.
Later in the week we had two Police vans and sniffer dogs into playschool. The dogs were kept safely in the vans but the children enjoyed seeing them, trying on police uniform and pretending to drive the police cars and setting the sirens off. Everyone enjoyed the visit by the police dog handlers today.  The children loved trying on the different police hats and clothes and meeting ‘Murphy’ the small sniffer dog.
Later some of the school children came to have a talk with the police as well. It was a fabulous opportunity for all of us !   Some excellent reflective stickers were given to all the children.
We would like to thank all our Emergency Services very much for helping us to educate our children about ‘People who help us’.

HEROES

This week one of our student’s brother's came to Playschool  in his army medic gear – the children, listen really well and tried on his army mask and helmet. They learnt about how the British Forces help people by rescuing them in floods and protecting people in danger. They also saw his dried food ration and tried some reconstituted apple juice – some children said it was nice some said it tasted “disgusting”!
This week  we were all busy making Father’s day bookmarks at forest school , and love cards– these were stencil printed bulldozer cards and the children also attempted writing their names inside.
The sunshine meant that water play was in big demand – and lots of thought went into working out how to make the water flow down the guttering and back to the bowls – it was “good fun”.
STAFF TRAINING - Jude & Tracy B attended the Forest school Learning Initiatives’ conference down near Slimbridge – it was a fab day where we revisited using saws and drills, made a pot holder – learnt about free food from the forest, how to sustain you forest school area, and leant allot of new ideas to bring back for our children in playschool.
PARENTS FOREST SCHOOL EVENING - On Wednesday evening some of the parents joined playschool staff in a forest school cookout evening – they had a tour of the FS area, sat around the fire chatting, made bread to go with their veggie bean chilli and toasted marshmallows. One of the team’s yummy banana bread finished the evening off – all the parents reported what a lovely evening they’d had!

HEALTHY TEETH

We had a lovely week brushing teeth and each making a paper mouth with 20 teeth - which we then held up in front of our faces and laughed at each other.

On the walk to visit the dentist it was lovely and sunny - we would like to thank Broadway Dental Surgery for their great reception and for providing the children with a tour of the dentist and a chat with dentist and dental nurses. The children really enjoyed their experience and marched back to playschool full of the visit.

REMINDER - your child needs a coat every day - so that they can access the outdoors even when it is raining - thankyou

ambulance and paramedic at playschool - to visit !

Monday saw an ambulance at Playschool – thank you very much to the lovely Paramedic who drove all over the county to get the ambulance to us !  The children were very well behaved and asked lots of interesting questions – One of the staff team had gas and air and one child sat on the stretcher – they all enjoyed sitting in the drivers seat too !
There has been lots of fun and laughter in the role play area, with the hats and mirror!  The children are using brilliant amounts of language and negotiation skills while interacting with each other.

At Forest School Wednesday we had a fantastic fire, with lovely pancakes baked on the fire, which the children and adults enjoying them immensely!

Our Uni student froze some mini beasts in water and we watched them melt and come out again ! Some lovely problem solving and language and comprehension heard.

The school had some extra fruit this week so we made banana smoothies for snack time and banana bread for lunch -which Jude nearly burnt – but luckily was still edible – the children wrote recipes and took turns in weighing and sieving the ingredients.

We found lots of snail on Thursday and put them in a tuff tray with leaves outside – there was lots of interest in the snails - collecting and putting in tuff tray- counting them and trying to look after creatures!

When we had a storm the children loved the hail and put various containers out to try to catch it!

Goldilocks and the three Bears !

At Broadway Playschool (2-3 group) they loved the big box ! after a while they all wanted to hide in it, we put a cushion and a blanket inside to make it cosy ! and just before we tidied the paints away one little girl decided it would be lovely to paint the box !!! beautiful- child initiated, child led play at its best !!!

Meanwhile at Towerview –the whole ‘Goldilocks and the three bears ‘ theme was in all their play – on the headphones& reading the story, in the role play, in the sand - & they liked making and then eating the porridge for snack!   The flapjacks were very yummy too.

As part of the transition work we are doing, the reception teacher came to read a story and was shown the school dressing up clothes by two boys –  she was very impressed at their counting skills & how well they listened to the story.

At Forest School the children really enjoyed the overgrown forest this week, looking for bugs, slugs, and snails. listening and looking out for Mr Robin !! – there are at least 2 down there and they come to get the dropped biscuits form our snack time!

Excellent conversations and team work, looking at the bluebells, and making mud pies – and when asked what they were making, one child said  "i am using a ‘recipe’!"   They found worms and used the reference books to see which kind they had found.
