THINGS THAT GO ‘BRUUMMM!’

At Towerview Playschool on Monday, Jude brought her car into the outside area – the children especially liked the horn beeping and the hazard lights flashing. Everyone enjoyed looking around the car and there were lots of clever questions asked when we looked at the engine.  Jo showed everyone how to check the oil – we were all impressed !

We have been busy stencil painting vehicles, making tracks on paper with car tyres and junk modelling vehicles rockets and other creations.  Some of the children are really
enjoying making all sorts with the junk modelling – what very creative children we have!

The story ‘Room on a Broom ‘ started a discussion about whether or not a broom is ‘transport’!!

At Forest School exploring how the cold is affecting the woodland and trying to dig the hard soil has been fun. We made ‘dragon breath’ when we stopped for hot chocolate.

On Friday, we let toy cars down a ramp and measured the different distances they travelled in cm with a tape measure.  Lots of enjoyment with picking their own cars, placing on the guttering
and seeing whose went the furthest.

Some wonderful junk modelling is happening at Broadway Playschool,

The children are really enjoying the cellotape experience !

WELCOME TO ALL RETURNING AND NEW FAMILIES - HAPPY 2015 !

It was lovely to see everyone back all so excited after the Christmas break. There were lots of conversations about Christmas and presents and Christmas trees.

-      Jude said she got a bag of coal to which one child replied

“No Jude what did you really get from Santa?” !!!

It was a great first week back with couple of new ones who have settled really well. One morning was spent looking at items that had been frozen. We got the ice out of the freezer this morning as a big group activity, they were all really involved, We put the different frozen items outside on the tuff tray and the children came up with lots of ideas- estimating which one would melt the quickest.

Completing our ‘weather’ theme form last term the children painted some lovely rainbow pictures.

One afternoon we played the Lycra game which they all really enjoyed t and Beck read ‘Monkey Puzzle’ story –they love joining in with the refrain “Butterfly Butterfly   that’s not my Mum....” !!!

Great to see lots of language being used in the kitchen and cafe area (role play)- the new cooker has proved a big favourite and although the weather hasn’t been great this week it was good to get out and have a blast on the bikes!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new children this term and we are looking forward to a great new year.

Have a very Happy Christmas & peaceful New Year

A week full of Christmas preparations  - making Xmas bauble cards at Broadway Playschool – with plenty of glitter – meanwhile at Towerview the children have been finishing the Xmas calendars, making Satsuma pomanders – or ‘panandas’  as one child said- and making Xmas pudding cakes. We have had fake snow to play with – lovely and fluffy and warm!

We have had allot of children off with sickness & the other (!) – please remember the 48hour rule ( =48 hours from last bout)  so that we prevent the spread of this illness.

The cold weather has leant itself to frosty Forest School sessions – making footprints in the frost & finding frosty leaves. The mud kitchen has been very popular – mixing up pancakes and stews  !!!

On Thursday our Christmas Sing Song was very well attended by parents & carers – the children sang their hearts out and everyone sang   we wish you a merry Xmas ‘  and we do !!!& a Happy New Year!

Last week this week–with Xmas party on Friday with a visit from Father Xmas !!!

Back on Monday 5th January 2015 – have a great holiday everyone !

FROSTY MORNINGS – ‘IT’S RUSTY!’

= One child's response to seeing the frosty leaves !

At Broadway Playschool this week, it was a very sparkly week - potatoes were used to paint with, and topped off with plenty of glitter - the children's bauble cards were beautiful!

We have explored the ice on the pavements and grass & at forest school collected frost covered leaves.

Towerview children had a lovely walk down the village to see beautiful shop Christmas displays.

Playschool Committee met and while checking everything was in order, they heard a report of last year’s events and achievements and the training completed by staff. The committee have also all completed their updated safeguarding training.

We enjoyed lots of lovely hand and feet painting going on to make a backdrop for our SING SONG on Thursday 11th Dec 11am. The children are doing lovely singing to Mary's knitting and other Xmas songs in preparation- so it should be a treat !

Its begining to look alot like Christmas !

At Broadway Playschool

Some of the children have been busy with the blocks this week, creating tall towers and shapes.

The fir cones Xmas tress decorations for our tree in the URC Xmas tree festival the children did are just beautiful – complete with the coloured ‘pompoms’.

They have been having a lovely time role playing, mark making and mixing paint.

The glitter is out of the cupboard !

Watch out for the Christmas decorations !!

At Towerview Playschool

We enjoyed selecting different objects and making different sounds to use to make our wind chime, and the children were excited to hear it working as the wind got up.

The sunshine face plates were made using collage and looked very effective.
We did whole group activity one afternoon making the reindeers with pine cones.

We has a couple of great sessions in forest school children enjoying the mud kitchen, catching raindrops on their fingers & climbing through the climbing tree and swinging off!

Thursday, we finished  decorating the cones to go on our Christmas tree. We then walked down to the United Reformed Church to decorate our  Christmas tree & it looks fab!

Come and see it this Friday evening & next at the UR Church Broadway !

The children are practicing hard for our
SING SONG on Thursday 11th Dec 11am
& are sounding great singing ‘Marys knitting’– parents, carers, childminders, granny , aunts and friends welcome !

WIND & the weather !

This week we have been exploring the wind – the children have made a wind chimes that has been put up outside above the decking

– we have made paper aeroplanes and danced with ribbons – but there has been a severe lack of wind so we will try again net week !

At Forest School – we are now at the top coniferous site – and the children are loving the mud kitchen and natural den.  We go into Forest School on Wed’s and Friday’s whatever the weather          ( except high winds) so we all need to wrap up warm and wear the FS overalls and waterproof coats.

The Forest School experience gives children the chance to get in touch with nature and the elements    –      being there allows them ownership of their learning and it really helps with communication, self confidence and self regulation.  Getting ready in itself contains much learning – having to get shoes off and put coats and waterproofs on, finding hats and gloves and welly boots- all part of learning to be independent.

The decorations for the Playschool Christmas tree at The United Reformed Church (part of Broadway late night shopping for the next two Friday’s)  are going well
– Come and see them at the Church on Friday evenings!

COLD WEATHER WARMERS !

At Towerview Playschool this week the children have been finishing their Diwali tea lights in gold and silver – very beautiful they are too!
A giant firework picture was made by everyone; using cut card tubes as a mono print tool – to great effect – see the big painting up on the windows!
We were quiet for 1 minute on Tuesday and printed some screen print poppies to take home.
The children enjoyed ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ - which was instigated by our student Emily.  She has been reading the story sack to them during the week, then on Thursday they helped make porridge with her then tasted it with different flavour toppings.
She had her assessment for Early Years Teacher and we wish her every success.
On Friday – due to the blustery weather – we stayed in the setting – still getting outside but also making chocolate bread – it did look and smell very yummy!
At Broadway Playschool the little ones had a great time exploring the shaving foam.  Our 'Dear Zoo' book has promoted lots of animal role play - all of the children suddenly became pretend animals, playing together wonderfully. It was brilliant!
