LOTS TO CELEBRATE!

This week has been full of activity, we have had the photographer in, made Valentine cards, prepared, made (and eaten) pancakes and celebrated Chinese New Year with display props, screen prints of the Year of the DOG ! and cooked noodles at Forest School and danced to music.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed our new role play area, which was converted by them ( and us by adding props) into a 'vets'.  They have been making a variety of animals better and even discussed the pets they have at home.

It was especially lovely for one child whose dad came in to share the making and cooking of  pancakes with the group. He was very proud that it was HIS Dad cooking.

The children have worked hard to make their Valentines cards , following instructions and a sequence - also washing hands afterwards!

The children's screen prints of the Chinese New Year of the Dog worked well after a difficult start- the 1st stencil ripped - the staff enjoyed achieving these too.

At our daily circle time when the children are asked 'who has any news?' ,we noticed  they are becoming good at describing events.

At the 'Little ones' group on Monday they enjoyed pancakes at snack time. On Wednesday one child watched how the Valentines cards were made then did her own version with many paper hearts stuck to her hand print! They also made Valentine Day banners - so they could really explore hand printing.

DANCING TO THE BEAT !

At Forest School this week, we built two bug hotel. This is a stack or shelving with things for bugs to live in - such as piles of twigs, pieces of bark - rolled up cardboard, logs etc  The children enjoyed helping to make it by sawing up pallets and collecting twigs, sticks and bark for the inside. We also made a label from a piece of wood and string the children found. Jude wrote bug hotel on it in charcoal from the fire (the previous week). There was some singing while we worked !

All the children enjoyed a visit from Kathy from 'Boogie Beat'. They enjoyed singing, dancing, using musical instruments, which made the music fun.
Some of the children have enjoyed large construction outside this week, using crates, tyres and different materials to make a 'fire engine' and on Friday they made a giant seat.
The children have become interested in writing their names outside in chalk. Some write over once staff have scribed their names others are writing independently.

SINGING IN THE RAIN ! what a wonderful feeling !

The children at Broadway Playschool are enjoying ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story sack and are joining in with the refrains.
They've also been introduced to a new game, called "who's got the glasses on?" , which involves taking turns and learning  their peers' names.

With the heavy rain on Wednesday some of the children at Towerview Playschool wanted to go out and explore with umbrellas. One child noticed that on the steps by the gate that the water was coming down so fast it looked like a waterfall – he got very excited showing peers. He had already made a waterfall in the water play inside and so was transferring his knowledge from one scenario to another.  Many children have enjoyed the inside water play – experimenting with flow, ‘full’ and ‘empty’.

All the children have enjoyed a variety of music activities in our ‘Music Magic’ theme, including dance to the ‘Trolls’ soundtrack, exploring musical instruments, getting involved in listening games and singing. We have some very confident children who loved showing us their musical talents.

Some groups of children enjoying building ‘vehicles’ outside. They used the crates and mats to represent the‘fire engine’ in their role play. They repeated that twice during the week by also building smaller cars outside.

GETTING STUCK IN !

We have observed many children showing a real sense of achievement whilst enjoying their selected activities. This has been seen when they have completed puzzles, when they have made some beautiful art work with the paints or when they have made a waterfall from spades a bucket and a shell in the water play!  The children have really enjoyed the indoor water play this week, especially been able to use the running taps!!

During the afternoon sessions, some children have enjoyed playing table top games such as  matching pairs in the ‘Thomas the Tank’ game, supporting one another if they can remember where they saw the card last. Heard quite a few  "YES I GOT IT !" once a pair was found.

At Broadway Playschool the new children are beginning to settle and find their way around the activities and equipment – many have enjoyed playing with water outside and putting balls in to see if they float and water painting. They have also enjoyed whizzing around with buggies and bikes in the winter sunshine.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL !

Happy New Year & Welcome to the spring term.

Our theme this term is ‘music magic’!

It's been lovely to see how well the younger children from the ‘little ones’ group ( Broadway Playschool)  have settled into Towerview Playschool this week.

There has been a lot of interest in the indoor water play this week (usually outside – just inside for this term). One of the boys got some of the little bits of plastic tubing and fixed them together. He then  put them on the tap turned it on and the joy on his face seeing it come out the end of the tube was brilliant !

We have loved watching the children’s faces when they were singing through the microphone and then playing their singing talents back to listen to!!    They have been exploring the percussion instruments and singing Christmas songs..

Father Christmas has been sent a letter to see if the two Elves who visited before Christmas could come back – the children really enjoyed looking after them and ‘keeping them safe’!

REMINDER – SNOW CLOSURES WILL BE ON BBC HEREFORD AND WORCESTER as soon as we can

 – we will also be on the schools list alongside 'Broadway First School'

and a notice on the doors at both the Playschools. Thankyou

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL !

Let it snow ! let it snow ! let it snow!
Even though it wasn't here for long we had a fab time in the snow, the children enjoyed sledging, making snow angels and exploring icicles and studying animal footprints.

The children have enjoyed all the Christmas activities on offer, these included stocking collages, making cards, party crowns and finally creating chocolate reindeers !

The Christmas Party was a great success. We had party games including pass the parcel, a photo shoot of all of us in our Xmas jumpers then after a quick whizz around on the bikes outside we all sat down to full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings! It was delicious and one child ate 3 ‘platefulls’. The jelly and ice cream was good too.
Father Christmas came and after giving out early presents took the Elves – Elsie and Elvis back with him to the north Pole to get busy making presents for the BIG day!  He thanked the children for looking after the Elves so well.  Then Father Christmas asked the children to do one thing for him – he asked them, on Christmas Day, to give all their own families a hug and tell them they loved them.

The staff would like to say a big thankyou to our families for all the presents, chocolates and biscuits we received …….

HAPPY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL AT PLAYSCHOOL !
