WELCOME TO THE PLAYSCHOOL AUTUMN TERM 2018 !

Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to our Playschool autumn term.
This term we will be looking at 'ourselves' and each other and learning what it means to be in the  Playschool community.
I hope you have all received your newsletter - if not please ask for a copy in Playschool.

It's been lovely welcoming back the children after the summer and watching the new children
settling in really well getting use to our enabling environment. Also seeing how they all have enjoyed playing together, interacting and starting to form friendships.

We have been learning each others names playing 'roll the ball' game and the children have been enjoying 'What's in the Box?' a rhyming game that supports their speech and sharing abilities.

We have seen many children enjoy digging in the soil with the diggers and having lots of perseverance to dig deep in the tough soil.  There has been much fun had with the playdough - making shapes , cakes and rolling and pinching to form shapes.  Sand and water has been popular - utilising those pre-writing skills to manipulate - to pour -lift-  fill - explore - dig - empty - shape etc

At Forest School
We have been noticing how the forest is changing and exploring its flora and fauna.

FOREST SCHOOL EVENING FOR PARENTS AND STAFF  MONDAY ( 17th Sept  ) EVE AT 6PM to include Forest cooked supper and a drink - let us know asap if you can attend by returning your slip to Playschool

Many of the children have been quite busy painting this week and we have
seen some really great artwork.  Also even though it's the last week we have
seen the children showing good sitting and good listening which is always a

great thing to see!  The children have  really enjoyed helping us clean all the toys ready for September.  Thankyou to all the parents who have helped with cleaning washing dressing up etc.

We will miss all our children leaving us to go to 'big' school, and we hope you all have a fabulous time.  Also, to all the children returning to us in September, have a fun summer and stay safe.

We have enjoyed sharing ideas with the visiting teachers,  such as taking care of resources and cleaning them for the new academic year and our use of water play for understanding our world.

Wishing all the children lots of luck on their new adventures to 'big' school.
Have a great summer everyone !

HEAT WAVE !

With the weather being so nice we've taken the opportunity to enable the children to paddle in the water in the tuff trays this week. Lots of fun was had by all. Out in the sunshine we used the different sand timers and settled on the ten minute timer to see how long it took the sun to dry the water patches.

The little ones at Broadway Playschool had a great time when we introduced the mud kitchen. They made some lovely muddy handprint pictures with staff

All the older children at Towerview Playschool have been doing very good sitting and ‘good listening’ at Circle Time and it is lovely to see how they enjoy us sharing their news.

The children have had a great time playing football on the field, where they showed off their skills and even scored lots of goals against the staff.

This week we have been doing a lot of mark making. We have also been exploring different mediums such as mud, paint, glue, glitter and water.  The junk modelling continues to be popular too.

SANDFORD FOREST SCHOOL TRIP

What a wonderful day we had !
Emma who owns the farm made us very welcome and the children responded very well to the safety talk.
We all went into the forest school wood where we saw the different areas and went to base camp - after a forest fire and crumpets and milk and fruit snack time everyone went off to explore the forest.
The staff were strategically spaced so that they could watch and support but allow the children freedom to explore.
We had den exploring, rope challenge, swinging on tyre swings climbing hillocks , sliding down , balancing along tree trunks, playing in the mud kitchen and wallowing in the mud pits. children collected water, built shelters and explored the wild areas.
We had a picnic lunch together after the muddy children had been hosed down !
and toasted marshmallows on the fire after whittling hazel sticks.
It was a lovely lovely day enjoyed by children and staff - with some tired children on the coach on the way home !

BROADWAY ARTS FESTIVAL

This week as part of the Broadway Arts festival we were lucky enough to have a visit  from John Kirk the Story teller - he was amazing …...the children had such a lovely time. He performed 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'The Three Little Pigs' and everyone took part.

One day we enjoyed a walk to the local shop to buy fruit and then we all helped to make a fruit salad the following day. The children all cut up a variety of fruit and showed good control and it was delicious !

At Broadway Playschool the younger children have really enjoyed playing outside all together and spending time playing in the water. We are all enjoying having the visiting student back and the warm weather has allowed us to have snack time outside with the two year olds. They have also enjoyed the play dough this week.
At Towerview much fun has been had with the castle and figures, this week, self selecting the equipment and lots of imaginative play seen and extended language heard.

At Forest school this week we explored the bugs and some of the children made a bug hotel with a swimming pool. The building at the back of the forest school area is complete and we are now able to hear and see the birds.

WE HAVE BEEN ASKED NOT TO USE THE SCHOOL CAR PARK AS IT IS FOR SCHOOL STAFF ONLY - thankyou for your cooperation.

PRACTISING FOR WIMBLEDON

Some of the children have enjoyed the 'marble run' this week, working together to problem solve. There has been some lovely interaction and it is fabulous to see the delight on their faces when the ball has gone all the way from the top to the bottom.

Outside the children have really enjoyed using the bats and balls to develop and show off their tennis skills.

Along with the children, Sarah also learnt something this week when she attempted
(with help from Jo & Tarah) to make peppermint (& vanilla) 'caterpillars' sweets !
The children really enjoyed following the instructions to make them too!

They also made their own playdough, following the recipe and had fun playing with it all week.
