LIGHT & DARK ......

At Towerview Playschool this week fun was had moving and grooving on the outside  ‘dance floor’ – the children constructed a dance floor using the outdoor construction materials; all child initiated – complete with guitars made from oars and tennis racquets and plastic bottle microphones! The ‘audience’ even got instruments so we could all join in.
Some children have been producing some great artwork, using confident cutting and drawing.
The children warmed up whilst exercising to our ‘bean bag raps’- ‘good listening guys!’
Due to high winds we were not able to do Forest School this week but we did make sure we were outside building, on the bikes and doing some digging work on the outdoor space – tidying up and sweeping.
During circle time using the microphones to sing in to and then listen back some lovely nursery rhymes were heard being sung and even a little song from ‘Frozen’. The children's faces while listening back to themselves singing was a picture!

We also read 'Whatever Next' which lead to a great group discussion about the moon “....what it might be like....why it was boring...(because no one was there)...... Could there be aliens?....if so ..would they they be scary or friendly.....what they might look like.....how many eyes.....what colour?.......do they wear clothes....." They wear underpants"... Linking to "Aliens Love Underpants". Some great thinking, imagination and language.

At Broadway Playschool water play was very popular this week– squirting using the puffer fish and making the water wheels whizz around. They also enjoyed pretend bubble play with the bubble wands!
They have been sticking and gluing and mark making while on the ‘phone’.
The children have also been enjoying ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’ story and are beginning to remember the refrain.

WELCOME BACK TO SPRING TERM 2016 !

‘Happy new year’ and welcome back to the spring term! Our theme this half term is ‘light and dark’; why? Shadows and what makes them, nocturnal/diurnal animals.  Lots of language opportunities both at playschool and home. The activities on offer to the children are always up on the hallway notice board.

At Towerview Playschool there has been some lovely Christmas role play "....Ho Ho Ho!!....." .A group of children have been playing, having a "big sleep" and waking up to find " Santa's been", and he has been busy in the junk modelling area wrapping presents for everyone with adult help. Its is great practice for  learning to speak and write for a purpose for children to recreate scenes from real life - to share them with others and to begin to make sense of their world.

There has been some lovely "cats" role play too. We have been listening to their interactions and it has been great to see children leading that have not been with us long and wonder at how much their confidence has grown.

The light box theatre has been popular, some children have been involved using the animals and figures to act out and create their own stories....really imaginative.

FOREST SCHOOL
Having now moved to our smaller forest school area,( to give the other one a rest), the children really enjoyed making 'cornflake cup cakes' and baked bean pie in the mud kitchen and 'chocolate pudding with cheese' for added flavour in the digging area! Some had fun using their bare hands to scrape the soil up rather than use an implement! We have really enjoyed observing the children exploring the new forest area. Not one child came away clean - lots of fun was had !!
On Friday a group made their own party at forest school complete with singing and presents.

2-3S GROUP AT BROADWAY PLAYSCHOOL are beginning to gel now with new children coming in and older ones gone onto the bigger group. It has been great to see new friendships develop and hear their communication skills grow.

WATCH OUT THOUGH because this week two of the little pigs from our story sack have gone missing, the big bad wolf has blown down their houses and they have ran away!!!!   Our mission next week will be to search everywhere in playschool to find out where they are be hiding!

CHRISTMAS WEEK !

We have been very busy finishing off some Christmas crafts and keepsakes this week. Some have made some lovely Christmas cards which they had great fun making.

At Forest School we lit the kelly kettle and made some custard, to eat with our banana for snack. This week we are toasting pancakes on the fire while keeping warm !

Last Friday afternoon we walked down to St Michaels church to watch the First Schools nativity, a couple of the children were really excited to see their siblings taking part.

On Tuesday this week we had our nativity sing song - the children did very well and were supported by lots of grans', granddads' and parents. The slide show of the autumn term seemed to be well received and the children have loved seeing them selves up on the wall!
PARTY DAY is Thursday.

ALL OF US AT BROADWAY & TOWERVIEW PLAYSCHOOL WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR!

Do come and see our Xmas tree at the United Reformed Church in the upper High Street !
We have had play dough that smells like ginger  bread and glitter in the sand !
At Broadway Playschool penguin potato prints have been made by the children and ice explored outside.
At Towerview Playschool ice was also found inside the tyres and brought in to setting to see how long it would take to melt.
The children have taken home their Diwalli lights and are busy making junk model construction of every kind imaginable!
Some of the children have walked down to see the Xmas tree in the church and to look in the decorated shop windows.
MEETINGS WITH STAFF to talk about your child's development are available every afternoon next week - please see form or talk to staff to book a slot.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHT

There was some fab mark making and collage this week from flowers to 'Minecraft' at Towerview.  Most of the children have also enjoyed getting messy with the clay making Diwalli tea lights for the Hindu Festival of Light.
It was great to see some of the children role playing using the puppets and soft toys, with a dragon theme this week. They have also  been getting really involved with role play with the outside building equipment again making ‘aeroplanes’.
At Broadway Playschool the children are becoming more settled now and we are having good fun playing "who's wearing the glasses game" and getting to know each other at snack time.
Forest school session - saw many children building on their confidence to climb the tree at various heights, and challenge themselves further. This also helps builds the muscles they need to write with.
Jude and Jo have been on Local Authority SENdCo training in Worcester . This is training for our special educational needs support in Playschool and benefits all the children with their development.

THE PLAYSCHOOL COMMITTEE HAVE THEIR ANNUAL MEETING THIS TUESDAY EVENING AT 6.30 AT TOWERVIEW PLAYSCHOOL. ALL PARENTS ARE INVITED.

bonfires and remembrance...

This week we have been seeing wind & rain lashing the playschool – the children have still managed to get outside and build aeroplanes, trains and houses. The one plane even had ‘TVs in the seats’ so we could all ‘watch’ different films!!

We have made felt poppies and talked about remembering people and soldiers and wars. The children worked hard to split the wool weft and to layer it – then to soap it then roll it out and then leave to dry. The poppies look very effective !

We have also been discussing fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe. The children have made a ‘krispie’ bonfire cake at both settings – it all tumbled down the sides of the bowl and they added different sweets to make the ‘flames’. They have seen matches and sparklers and we have talked about ‘fire’ ,‘hot’, heat’ and ‘burning’. They know these things are for adults to do and they can watch, to keep safe.

The bonfire cake at Towewrview went to Forest School and was beautiful with the sparklers in it – then we all had a piece- yum yum !
